I have been arguing along with my daughter if she has to wear pantyhose with her dresses. I've a personal issue with bare feet/legs in Sunday shoes-- I dispise hate hate how it looks/feels without tights. The actual exception is available toed sandals- those are good without tights or even nylons. My child ( age 10) wish to not wear tights at all with some of her Sunday footwear,party dresses for women. I cant endure bare feet inside closed shoes- it just looks yuck to me, I can imagine them all sweaty and yucky in there, and it just looks weird. I thought it was proper to use tights , so I have insisted. However, I have been trying to observe what the other girls her age do, and many many of them don't wear tights or even socks with their shut toed Sunday shoes. Whatrrrs your opinion?
I'm going to have to differ with most of the twine. I really don't think that TIGHTS (as in solid, with feet) at any time go out of style. Now i'm talking black tights, navy tights, gray. White? Depends on clothes.
My girls use tights to church. So do most of the some other girls in major. It's too just awaful smelling cold to go uncovered legged and even though tights do not really protect anybody from the cold, it really is better than bare hip and legs. My 9 yr old can choose to go bare legged if she wants, however i highly doubt she'd want to.
Nylons tend to be yuck. They rip my feet apart. I've not worn them in a ten years. Cotton tights are like socks, not uncomfortable (for us). Bring on simple legs in the spring.

The OP is discussing a 10 year old lady, not an adult. The real difference? An adult knows how to shave legs (I hope!), in which a preteen has not started shaving for men her legs- well several might have. Hairy hip and legs and pantyhose/nylons look dumb,http://temagami.firstnation.ca/node/1#comment-35075, IMHO. My dd wears tights sometimes to cathedral leggins most of the time, because they help to keep her legs warm, not just for seems. Babies are running around on the floor, so tights or child legs are great to keep them warm.
I personally would rather wear pantyhose to church because my own legs look terrible. I tend to wear african american sheer or opaque more than anything else, but it depends what I am wearing. I do have leggings . Our Stake curr,prom dresses on sale. wife has advised all the bishop's wives to wear panty hose to church and any conference she attends. I think it is aniquated, but she actually is one of those business women that dresses up regarding work everyday also. I don't believe tights are necessary together with close-toe shoes, but I just cannot imagine liking the sense (or stink later on) of wearing such shoes with nothing together and sweaty tiny feet. I think they look a bit awkward, as well (without tights). Same with my youngest Ds lite,prom girl prom dresses, but he would instead wear sandals (thank heavens).
My DD refuses to put on her close foot shoes anywhere, ESPECIALLY if she has to wear leggings or socks. Normally I just let her wear less formal kind shoes with socks, or just let her proceed barefoot.
